A Grownup’s Lament
Oh, to be a kid again,
To taste the things I used to eat.
Memories come. Cravings begin;
A gumball: What a yummy treat!
I smile just to think of it.
My grin just spreads from ear to ear.
But I’m older now by just a bit
And time goes faster by the year.
A circus tent still brings me joy.
I guess my soul ain’t grown up yet.
At heart I’m still a little boy,
And I’ll always be, I’ll bet.
I still grin at a butterfly,
And see a robin as my friend.
My spirit hasn’t grown so high
I can’t have fun with “let’s pretend.”
